Image of the City of Dreams, Edinburgh during the Fringe festival in August
City of Dreams

Streets ablaze with diversion:
city, August and bright,
festival! a chance for every person
to bask in a spotlight,
Edinburgh - City of Dreams,
an audience laughs, an actress screams,

O gilded prize, glittering jewel
of public adoration,
its draw so stark, rejection so cruel,
no safety net - humiliation!
Edinburgh: Dream City,
the moment passes, more's the pity,

loud applause, rave critiques,
the show is going well,
or reviews that make you sick,
and tickets that won't sell,
Edinburgh where dreams hold sway,
will mine be shattered? I daresay!
