Egg

You were my friend, Egg,
long ago,
we played Dungeons & Dragons
and Elvis Costello,
I recorded your pop songs
though so-so,
you dropped me for reasons
I still don't know;
twenty years on
I see your face
staring out
from cyberspace,
it seems you've scaled
academic heights:
esteemed Professor
of Termites!
perhaps relationships
are date-expired,
like Lorna and Christy
you grew tired
of me,
I see
again your orange/red hair
and mourn friendship
never truly there.
