Image of snowscape in Obergurgl, Austria

Snowscape

Powder from the heavens
descends to spirits leaven,
Snowscape: weiss and gnostic stern,
Lofty lamps like beacons burn,
Ancient peaks keep their silence,
Slopes shall sooner plight their judgment,
Christ on cross in snow-cloaked shrine,
Angels drawn by cherubs divine,

Dank, verdant firs stand stiff as sentries,
their wisdom passing down the centuries,
Skin of fluff acts as a sheath
agin sly ice of serrated teeth,
Snow like alcohol coat,
saviour from wind for any wight in it,
Leaming fleece to crave and carve,
bathe, roll within and out-loud laugh.
